How To Record Your Own Booktalks

As promised, here’s my most technical “how-to” episode yet.  In this episode, I discuss equipment like this CAD dynamic recording microphone and this Logitech USB headset.  I also discuss Audacity and iTunes software.

This episode will help you dip your toe into the world of recording MP3s … which is just a hop, skip, and a jump away from recording your own podcasts!

  1. Congratulations on your one year anniversary. There’s a lot of good information on recording your booktalks in this episode. I would warn though that using Audacity is a “you get what you pay for” kind of deal in that it is a free program. The noise reduction process Andrea mentioned is not so much a reduction as it is a squelcher, and not a very good one at that. It tends to leave a faint ghost sound of what you tried to remove and can make the speaker sound somewhat tinny. It’s best to leave the ambient noise alone if you don’t wish to pursue more professional recording equipment.

  2. Just as an additional note. Audacity has just made a big update to their software. I haven’t checked it out yet, but for those of you with limited resources for recording, it’s worth a look.
